What happens to comPlan contributions and benefits during my unpaid leave?

Your pension with comPlan is maintained even during unpaid leave. Accordingly, you continue to pay pension fund contributions even though you do not receive a salary during this time. It is therefore worth drawing up a personal budget before taking unpaid leave. Swisscom also continues to participate in the contributions.

How am I insured during my unpaid leave?

You remain insured with comPlan during unpaid leave of up to two years. On the one hand, this means that you are insured if you become disabled or die during your leave due to illness or an accident. On the other hand, you continue to save as usual for the benefits after your retirement.

Who pays the pension fund contributions during my unpaid leave?

During the first three months of unpaid leave, you pay the same contributions that are usually deducted from your salary. As a rule, this is the employee contribution in the savings option you have chosen. Swisscom also continues to pay the employer contributions unchangedly.

From the fourth month of your unpaid leave, you must also pay the employer's savings contributions and any recovery contributions in addition to the employee contributions. The employer continues to pay the risk contribution and conversion loss contribution for you.

Your contributions will only be deducted from your first salary payment after the unpaid leave. Depending on the duration of the unpaid leave, this can be financially drastic for you.

Note 1
Before your unpaid leave, draw up a personal budget and calculate the pension fund contributions. You can find the amount of the contributions on your insurance certificate in comPlan Online.

How long can I take unpaid leave?

You can remain insured with comPlan for a maximum of two years during your unpaid leave. If your leave lasts longer, you will leave comPlan. More about leaving.

How do I plan unpaid leave?

You arrange unpaid leave with your employer. The employer will then notify us accordingly.

Note 2
If you are planning unpaid leave for next year, it may make sense to choose a different savings option as of 1 January.
